So you have a great blog with some awesome content. The plugins are all working well, the theme’s crisp, you’ve connected up your social media pages, and you’re ready to hit it big. Then you realize its worthless if nobody reads your content. You need some good ways to drive more blog traffic.
Attracting a few visitors here and there isn’t the approach that we’re look for. You need blog traffic that you can monetize, and enough of it to make some decent money.
The question is, how do you do it? People that are new to blogging generally don’t have a clue, but newbie internet marketers at least seem to aim for getting a high search result rankings. But isn’t the only way. No, there are many other smart ways to get boatloads of traffic to your blog. And the best part is, these 6 terribly good ways to get more traffic are really easy to implement.
Target low-competition keywords and phrases
When it comes to SEO (ranking your blog higher on Google), most people want to rank for high search keywords–such as “Make Money Online”, “SEO”, “Funny Videos”. But the truth of the matter is that it’s very difficult to rank for them. At least until you’re an authority site with a tonne of back-links, an aged domain, or money to pay to put your ads there.
Your aim is to get more blog traffic, but that doesn’t mean you need to try in vain to compete with the big sites. A lot of bloggers ignore low search volume keywords, so you’ll find that they tend to be quite easy to rank for.

So the key here is to target keywords that no-one else is using, or at least a keyword with only a few competitors in the market. You’re not going to build your blog traffic if you can competitor. So, write a post targeting a long tail keyword with fairly mediocre search volume. Do it every day. And after a few months, you’ll be pulling in thousands of monthly visitors from those low search volume keywords. It is simple math.
Now you’re probably thinking that you can’t write a post everyday, you need to plan, you need it to look awesome. Look, if its low competition, and low search volume, the chances are you’ll be able to rank the smallest of posts without having to worry about massive search engine optimization.

Suppose you wrote around 10 posts per month, and they each rank 1-3 for a long tail keyword that has 30-200 searches–a really really low search volume. You will have 13800 uniques per month after a year (based on an average of 115 uniques per month, per article). That’s quite a lot blog traffic.
For the purposes of the previous example I’ve used really low search volume, but you’ll be aiming for anywhere between 30-5000 searches per month per keyword. You might hit it lucky and find some low competition keywords with search volume in the 10000-100000 range per month too.
To rank for your long-tail keywords, make sure you include the keyword in the title, first paragraph and throw in a few variations of it throughout the post. If you do the on page SEO well, you won’t struggle at all. Just set aside some time to write a post everyday.

Abuse list posts, people love them
Do some research and find the best sites in your niche. This only takes a single Google search. Find out what each site is offering. And write a list post that features the sites you approve of–if you can’t be bothered, then use iWriter.
Write down specific details about each website in your post. Remember to make it genuine and useful. A lot of people are too general when they write posts like this, but don’t make that mistake. The most important thing here, is to hyperlink each site–don’t use “no-follow” links. You want to appease the sites you’re talking about.
Once you have published the post, tell them about it. You can do this in many ways. Contact them from as many platforms as you can, be it Facebook, Twitter, email or the contact page on their site. A lot of people hesitate when doing this, but you don’t have to.
It is important that they notice your work featuring them. Once they do, chances are they will return the generosity, or they will at least search your content on Social Media. If you’re lucky they could write a post mentioning you too.
This works most effectively if these people have a large audience.
Subscribe to your competitors, build relationships
Once you find out the major sites in your niche, subscribe to their newsletters and email lists. You are going to get a lot of emails, so you might want to make a new gmail.
The majority of the people don’t even read most of the newsletters they get. But you are going to read them, and reply to them as well. It is very rare to get a reply in the newsletter, so they will immediately notice you. And most importantly, write something that shows you liked their newsletter and site. But don’t just stop here. Share their content on social media and comment on their posts. They can’t fail to notice that. The point here, is to build a relationship with them. You’ll see how this can increase your blog traffic in just a moment.
After a few days, send them an email. In that, mention that you are willing to write a guest post for their site. Choose the topic wisely. It will be hard for them to put down your offer. This way, you not only get the links and traffic, but also build a relationship. Building relationships with established bloggers that are willing to let you write a guest post is an incredibly effective way to get more blog traffic. You don’t need to rank to get more traffic to your blog when you siphon traffic from other people’s blogs.
Increase your search engine click-through rate
A lot of you will have a few links ranking, perhaps #1 or perhaps near the top. But they are completely useless, unless people click-through to your page. CTR stands for click-through rate; the rate of people who see your link and click it. The more people that click, the more blog traffic you get.
A catchy title and a good description, are a must. The majority of people do it all wrong. They just focus on making the title and description SEO friendly, and forget about the aesthetics, the click-bait, the copy. There’s a selection of people who spend a lot of time and money on writing great titles and descriptions alone. They are PPC advertisers.
Learn from these PPC advertisers. Search for a keyword, and observe how the top PPC ads have written their descriptions. These people are not stupid. Their techniques are tried and tested, and they’re paying a lot of money to put their ads at the top of Google.

Pay someone to make you an info-graphic
Info-graphics are famous these days. Big websites spend a lot of money on good info-graphics.
If you feature other blogs on your info-graphic, and if it looks good, you can pretty much guarantee they’ll be willing to share it on their own blog. So before you get one made up, search for a blog-post that’s getting a tonne of blog traffic in your niche, preferably one that’s gone viral. Pull in some info from the post, feature their brand. Give that post to the designer. Ask him to design it. Now you get a great info-graphic they can’t say no to.
Your blog may have pages that show up only on the second or third page of the search results. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of traffic on these SERPs. So select some of them, the ones that you want to rank higher.
The next thing is, to use site explorer and find out the strongest pages on your site–the ones with the highest page authority. Then, put some links to the weaker content on the stronger pages. You will see over time that, the pages that ranked low on Google, will slowly rise. But make sure you don’t spam your pages with links. Make it look genuine and real.
These tips to generate more blog traffic are not very difficult to apply. Try them and you will see results. After all, if you only ever do what everyone else is doing, you will on get the results that majority get, poor results. Work smart instead.
